BILSTEIN boosts innovation with CIM Database PLM

Under the name “Data Organization Bilstein,” BILSTEIN is replacing its legacy system with CIM Database PLM. This lays the groundwork for its digitalization strategy in product development.

BILSTEIN produces approximately 14 million shock absorbers annually and is part of thyssenkrupp Automotive. Particularly in motorsports, BILSTEIN consistently demonstrates its innovative strength. Globally, the BILSTEIN brand is synonymous with innovation and high-tech suspension technology. To further solidify this position in the future, the company is now leveraging CIM Database PLM. This strategic decision will benefit over 1,000 users across its globally distributed locations.

CONTACT Software stood out in an intensive selection process, thanks in part to its motivated, solution-oriented team and a seamless Proof of Concept (PoC). A crucial factor was also the already established collaboration within the thyssenkrupp Group: CIM Database has been successfully deployed for many years at thyssenkrupp Dynamic Components. The partnership established there, which led to developments like the jointly engineered Shopfloor Navigator, provided BILSTEIN with additional confidence in its decision.

CIM Database enables extensive standardization and increased efficiency through automated data processing, comprehensive workflows, and finely granulated access controls. A key component is its comprehensive Engineering Change Process (ECP) for technical modifications to items and product data.

Additional features, such as automatic status changes for material releases and a detailed role and rights concept, ensure maximum process security and data consistency. Interfaces to critical systems like CATIA V5, Microsoft Azure, and MES provide seamless communication and continuous data flow.

“Thanks to CIM Database PLM, we can standardize our product development globally, and meet and further improve the continually rising demands for data quality. Furthermore, its modern, customizable user interface offers users maximum flexibility,” explains Dmitrij Smeljanskij, Vice President Product Engineering at BILSTEIN.

This is further supported by the integrated Deviation Approval, which enables the company to maintain its high-quality standards through transparency, robust quality assurance, and accountable decision-making.

With expertise spanning the entire chassis, BILSTEIN’s production facilities in Europe, the Americas, and China deliver products across the complete spectrum of damping systems. For many years, BILSTEIN has been a sought-after partner in motorsports and the tuning sector, serving both the Original Equipment (OE) and Aftermarket (AM) businesses. Currently, the company employs over 4,000 employees worldwide.
