WEGMANN automotive accelerates digital transformation with CONTACT Elements
The automotive supplier is replacing two legacy systems with CONTACT Elements, establishing a central PLM platform and an enterprise-wide single source of truth.
WEGMANN automotive is the global market leader in wheel balancing weights and battery bushings. The shift toward e-mobility is fundamentally reshaping market conditions and confronting the automotive supplier with new challenges: sustainability requirements are rising, while cost pressures and complex supply chains demand more efficient processes.
In this challenging environment, WEGMANN automotive is pursuing consistent digitalization not only to defend its leading market position, but to actively expand it. Its previous IT landscape consisted of two separate PLM systems for different business units, which presented a major obstacle. In addition, the lack of integration with the ERP system created extra overhead due to the manual transfer of product structures.
With CONTACT Elements, WEGMANN automotive is rolling out a central platform for product development. The solution consolidates product data from the legacy systems CAD Desktop and PRO.FILE, creating a unified data foundation for all development-related information. This ensures consistent product and document structures and enables all relevant objects and their dependencies to be classified uniformly across the company. Using standard interfaces, WEGMANN automotive connects the CAD systems Creo Parametric and SolidWorks, with plans to integrate the S/4HANA ERP system in the future.
During the selection process, CONTACT Elements stood out primarily for its modular architecture, which allows the system to be expanded gradually and in line with evolving requirements. The web-based platform also features an intuitive user interface, supporting high user adoption across the organization.
“The end-to-end CONTACT Elements platform creates maximum transparency across our processes. In particular, the ability to collaborate in 3D from engineering all the way to manufacturing makes teamwork significantly more efficient,” says Marco Pfeuffer, PLM Project Manager at WEGMANN automotive. In the upcoming project phases, WEGMANN automotive plans to scale the platform step by step. The initial focus will be on project and requirements management with the aim of standardizing these areas across the entire company. CONTACT is implementing its solution together with its partner dpace, which brings extensive experience in PRO.FILE migration projects.
