CONTACT Software finances university chair in Shanghai

CONTACT Software is supporting a flagship project run by Tongji University and the German Academic Exchange Service: The Chinese-German College for Postgraduate Studies in Shanghai now has a CONTACT chair for product development.

The Chinese-German College for Postgraduate Studies trains management personnel who are familiar with the two cultures. It offers three-year master courses in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, economics and economic law – in closed cooperation with German partner universities and coordinated by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

CONTACT finances the chair and provides software for interdisciplinary product development so that students benefit from an excellent environment in which to study this subject. “Germany and China have close economic ties. Both countries need not only highly-qualified employees but also a new generation of outstanding scientists, for example in order to drive forward topics such as Industry 4.0 or IoT,” says CONTACT's Managing Director Karl Heinz Zachries explaining his company's bilateral commitment.

With Tongji, the CONTACT Global Ecosystem now has a member that is to be developed into a world-renowned university through the Chinese state education program. Since it was founded by a German doctor in 1907, the university has had a close relationship with Germany and places great emphasis on vigorous knowledge transfer between the two countries. One of the flagship projects among the many German-Chinese university collaborations is the Chinese-German College for Postgraduate Studies that was funded by DAAD and Tongji and that offers a range of engineering and scientific courses.

Teaching is provided both by German guest lecturers and by Chinese scientists who all studied or did their doctorate in Germany. The training is multilingual (Chinese, German and English) and the Chinese students benefit from an internship or semester in Germany during their studies. Conversely, German students from the various partner universities can come to Shanghai for one or two semesters and learn alongside the Chinese students.
